oxford

This weekend, even while i was in the merry heart of oxford, i missed it. the simplicity of a small town. i finally realized why college years are the best, why people never leave oxford, and why, when they do, everyone eventually returns...for any reason...the Grove, double decker, the fun, the effortlessness of such an easy-going place. there is no rat race. no one rushes. suits and ties are not work attire. and after you get done with the workday, walk your ass next door and find a friend on the city grocery balcony. smoke a cigarette and relax with a cool vodka-lemonade, sugar on the rim, and talk and laugh until the day gives way to the stars and the dark. Saunter home, beautifully drunk and young, with love of your special place. breathe in the honeysuckle. hum with the crickets, get lost in a jungle of kudzu. and feel the pulse of the old ground. oxford slows you down in the best way.

hey guys!

Be sure to watch Top Chef: Masters tonight on Bravo at 10 PM. Chef John Currence will be a contestant; he's the guy who owns basically every decent restaurant in Oxpatch. I've heard he's a dick. I've also heard he gets eliminated after the third round, but it's still good to see a Mississippi chef in the ranks. Because I truly believe that the South has some of the nation's BEST food (hence the morbid obesity).

I started the tiniest of gardens today, so far it consists solely of strawberries and hydrangeas. We'll see how it goes. I went to a three-day meditation workshop this weekend and I'm feeling great! I learned a lot about breathing and yoga and "energy fields." Some of the information seemed a little far off the scientific path, the guy talked about "gathering energy from the earth and collecting it, sending through your core and mind, then lift it up to the heavens..." all this with hand movements. I'm just not a hippie, but gave it a go, and my road rage decreased, my anxiety of a hotel stay by myself was gone, I had no nightmares and slept like a baby both nights...in a HOTEL bed. Anyway, I'm converting my dad's office into a sort of yoga/meditation room. I'll light candles, arrange some plants, and then put on some yoga youtube videos. They even gave me chime music to breathe to at this thing. Here I come, Relaxation. I'm gonna fuck you up.
